There are many, including myself, who have acted similarly to stop crime and protect the vulnerable, and yet have been sanctioned for it.

It sickens me to the core when the 'great and the good', in this case Archbishop Welby and his Anglican cohorts, take public action over historic child abuse, but so so late, and so so after they have no choice but to do otherwise, when they have been forced into a corner and their arms are right up their backs.
And what is more, what they do is irrelevant, achieves absolutely nothing and rather then help the victims of child sexual abuse, it actually harms them.
Why?
Because it all plays into the great game the 'leaders' in our society appear good at playing, that they are taking this whole child sexual abuse things seriously, with investigations and special police operations and child protection policies and safeguarding structures.
In truth, it's all just a front to silence the noisy victims and wrap their inconvenient protests up in pseudo actions and empty promises.
What actually happens, is that the public remain duped about the level of child offending that exists in society, that those who want to inform the public about known child abusers, even the media are gagged, even convicted, and that those who are guilty of cover-ups, like Carey, are protected, until their actions finally come to light, when the 'great and the good' are seen to leap into 'righteous' action, that is in fact a lie in motion.

CHILDREN ROT IN LOCAL AUTHORITY 'CARE' RATHER THAN BE GIVEN GOOD HOMES

The state provision for children taken into care is beyond dreadful. The chances of such children finding long term fulfilment is poor and the likelihood of them offending or self harming great.
Repeatedly, local authorities make perverse decisions that pander to their 'systems' rather than the needs of the children.
Excellent parents are turned down, often because they are screened out for political or other irrelevant reasons, and inept parents, who are deemed compliant to the 'system requirements' but are ill-equipped or purely financially motivated, are accepted.
There are of course notable exceptions, but they are few and far between. Sandeep and Reena Mander are just the latest victims of a flawed process that leaves children to rot.

BREXIT - THE U.K.'S COLONIAL DREAM

There are still those who think our tiny island is a major player in world affairs, that we can punch above our weight and that we have so much to offer others.

Those who still hanker after lost influence and those old colonial days when we ruled our empire and travelled with a sense of privilege and advantage.

Those who fantasise now about going it alone, dreaming about all we will achieve by ourselves.

It's the sort of thinking that leads to the 'Brexit means Brexit' approach, as though there was just one interpretation, one analysis.

It often goes with the illusion of 'Britishness' that there is such a thing as a 'pure Brit'. We are an island of minestrone soup. Dip the spoon into any inhabitant, even the most apparently 'British' and you'll find multiple ingredients.

So what does 'Brexit' actually mean? The truth is no-one knows.

It is a hybrid word, born of in-house Tory politics and Cameron's lost gamble, that has resurrected our colonial fantasies and threatens to add to world fragmentation.

Hopefully, as the negative consequences of the Brexit experiment emerge and sweep away the deceitful Aladdin's Cave promises of the Brexiteers and the prejudices which provided the fuel to drive them to victory, a more considered and nuanced interpretation of the word will be found, that will awaken us to the fact that the Commonwealth replaced our Colonial rule.

Having watched innocent people being herded, shoved, humiliated and tormented, I read the report that they wouldn't allow an older, very sick man in terrible pain, with weeping sores to have a bath or use the toilet without handcuffs, with a numb recognition that this is the state of the U.K.'s detention practices today. That the prisoner died, handcuffed to an officer, while on the toilet is chilling and smacks of what happenend in North Korea to Otto Warmbier. The Ministry of Justice's ice cold official response smacks too of North Korean pretence. Once people lose faith in such official pronouncements, government is seriously undermined.
