Bishop Elect Lesley Dennis will be consecrated as the Bishop of Northumbria in June. 


Bishop Elect Lesley Dennis was born in Sunderland in 1965. Her father David, was a merchant seaman and her mother,  Eleanor a nurse. She married and had two children, Samantha and Adam by the age of 21. She embarked upon a degree course in English, when her children were of school age and achieved a BA honours in English from the University of Sunderland. In 1994 she qualified from Durham University as a secondary school teacher. Lesley taught English for many years and was promoted to head of department and then Assistant Head teacher. She is  currently studying for a second degree in Theology and Ministry at Lindisfarne Regional Training Partnership and Durham University. Since her priesting she has developed her ministry in a range of contexts, including  Messy Angels, writing and leading Christian courses for adults, setting up a community cafe and chaplaincy work in hospitals and schools. In August 2011 she entered into a Civil Partnership with her partner of 18 years. Currently Lesley is setting up a B&B in Lowick in Northumberland, near the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, where she will offer Christian hospitality and retreats. Lesley teaches Religious Education now part time to high school students.
