HONESTY - WHAT'S THAT?

There are even jokey radio phone-ins laughing about the biggest lies people have told. Honesty is a thing of the past. 'My word is my bond' long forgotten. We can't trust these days with any rational belief that we are wise to do so. We have become used to even our nearest and dearest betraying us in the most unimaginable ways. Trust is an act of faith, hope and often misguided optimism. Sometimes, spectacularly, we are overjoyed, when a person actually fulfils our belief in them and something long since frozen, warms in our soul. It has been said that the only reason we evolved the ability to speak was to be able to lie and deceive. Our consciences maintained our good behaviour, making us acceptable to our community and when our consciences failed, we evolved the back-up plan of deception. Now it seems, our consciences are slouched on the sofa, stuffing crisps watching porn, while our mendacity is at the gym.
