WE COULD SO EASILY HAVE BEEN KILLED - THE START OF A CRAZY FEW DAYS.

Travelling at 70 mph, on the A2 up towards Greenhithe, in the middle lane, with a lorry on our immediate left, followed by vehicles behind it, the Previa began to fail. I just managed to pull in past the lorry, quickly on to the hard shoulder and up to the roundabout, when the engine seized, grinding us to a halt. The radiator exploded and the car filled with white steam. Despite being regularly serviced, the chain had shattered. I purchased a replacement second hand vehicle and booked it in to be serviced, as I had to take 7 people to two universities on the Friday. I conducted a funeral the next day and on the Friday morning, all 8 of us set off, but just before the Dartford tunnel, the car radiator hit the red and we just managed to pull over to the emergency lane within metres of the tunnel entrance. I replenished the radiator and we just made it through the tunnel, before red again, and another frantic pull in to the emergency area, just off the fast lane. Having refilled again, and managing to make it out safely, straight onto the fast lane, we limped to a nearby garage, that couldn't help us. I added more water and we made it to a hire centre, where we acquired a minibus. Traffic was against us, with accidents and hold ups, but I managed to get the 3 young people to their university open day, another to a friend's house and another to their university digs for the start of their undergraduate days! I collapsed into bed at 3.30 a.m. but had to rise early as I had a baptism in Essex at Noon and a funeral visit following. I visited the infirm on Sunday, followed by a funeral today and finally some breathing space to recover....and so thankful that we survived!

THE JOURNALISM RE BEN STOKES OUGHT TO BE CRIMINALISED.

Such journalism should be criminalised. There can be no excuse or justification for this gross invasion of privacy and into the deepest suffering of a family. Examples of similar abominations  abound and action must be taken to ensure the journalists and publishers face serious repercussions.

Fulfulling what I have blogged before, the Daily Mail today vaunt Jesy inappropriately, pretending that by doing so she has vanquished her trolls. No, she has just continued to be prey to their and the media's predation of her life. One can only hope that Chris may be able to rescue her, but certainly not by leaving comments, feeding her addiction.

'ODD ONE OUT' - DON'T BLAME SOCIAL MEDIA -THE GUTTER PRESS HAVE ALWAYS TROLLED AND TWISTED

The media have jumped on the bandwagon of 'Odd One Out', talking of the perils of bullying on line and urging us towards a more compassionate, accepting attitude. However, there are two glaring problems with this trite approach. The first that the media constantly bully and troll the innocent. They take celebrities, or public figures or those recently come to national attention and decide one day to make them saints and the next devils. They play with their public image, excoriating them one day, eulogising them the next. They are not people but commodities to use as sport in the ruthless chase for profit. If social media is a place for bullying, it is only because the media leads the way. The second problem is that the documentary 'Odd One Out', far from reconnecting us to the ordinary and the everyday, in a tolerant, inclusive manner, instead presents the tragic story of poor Jesy, who has been so mangled by fame, that it seems she can't find her way back to herself. The very documentary tackling the issue of self acceptance presented a person so incapable of accepting herself that she wakes early to put her makeup on and gets back into bed, before her boyfriend stirs. So afflicted is Jesy, that even in the home of bereaved parents or in the self help group, she had to wear her mask. 'Odd One Out' ironically ended up encouraging the very obsessional preoccupation with appearance that it claimed it was resisting. Those who are calling for it to be shown in schools clearly don't realise just how manipulable they are by the cynical media.

IF ONLY JESY NELSON HADN'T BECOME FAMOUS

Her mother comments poignantly in the documentary to the effect, I wish I could have the Jesy back I knew before she became famous. What is disturbing, even through the laudatory comments directed at 'Odd One Out' is the apparent utter corruptibility of celebrity, that has been so deeply damaging to Jesy and continues to wreak its havoc upon her. This is no story of salvation, rather a tormented soul, so obsessed with the transitory, that she has made and makes herself a physical caricature, who still remains acutely vulnerable and locked within the hell of superficiality and social media. I hope, as her mother expressed, that one day she can shake off this predator and reconnect with the innocence of normality. In that alone will she find her freedom, her fulfillment, her peace and her happiness.

A BEAUTIFUL MODERN LOVE STORY - THE TWO WOMEN I MARRIED AND THEIR TWO SONS I BAPTISED

Years ago, I had the privilege of taking the marriage service for these two women, as they pledged their love for each other. Over two years ago, I shared their joy as I baptised their first child. This weekend was again so blessed, as I baptised their second child. Two precious lives, safely nestled upon the earth, because two women love each other, two families and groups of friends support their love, a society was there to legalise their relationship, and a cleric was there to marry them and baptise their beautiful children. Now in my sixties, thinking back to how things were in this country when I was growing up, I can only be but immensely thankful, to have been able to play a part in the evolution of this wonderful, emancipated, liberated, new world of inclusive love, of which this family is a shining exemplar.
