EASTER MESSAGE
Today, the greatest challenge we ever have to face, begins
its ritualised form.
Faced with the darkness of evil, betrayal at one’s hour of
greatest need, the opportunity to comply or resist, the decision to do right
and then the consequential flaying, torturing and humiliating, the agonised,
slow death and the descent into the torments of hell.
Throughout, the clinging to fragments of hope, faith and
love, yet not substantial enough to keep one’s head above evil’s consummation.
Then, amidst ash, soil, worm, branch and beetle comes the
stirring. In the discarded waste, awash with the devil’s effluent, is gifted
the germination.
Emergent, cherished, protected and empowered, the first
steps, toes caressing jewelled grasses green.
Diffidence giving way to dance, the skipping joy of
exaltation, the gathering of the still waters, crystalline, lifted with abandon
and flung unto the broadening sky, returning, heaven’s kisses, promising life
in all its immense, irrepressible possibility.
The psychodrama of Easter is but an annual marker in time of
that which is lived, suffered, endured and redeemed, second by second
throughout the year, by millions of human beings in their daily struggle and
transactions with reality.
