OUR POLICE STATE NHS
There is a creeping encroachment of Police State Britain into our health provision, with front line emergency staff being required to act as informants on those seeking emergency help.
When you cry out for help and make yourself vulnerable you don't expect the nurse or doctor to actually be a State spy about to shop you to the authorities, torment you or beat you up.
And don't imagine this just involves hardened criminals, as this can involve ordinary families who have attended because their child is poorly, suddenly being interrogated and fighting for the safety of their family unit.
As an Independent Custody Visitor, I, at first, believed that asking to see the on duty doctor, provided the detainees with an element of independent help and safety. I soon learnt otherwise, when it became clear that nearly all those involved in custody suites are buddies covering each other's backs and roll out the same dehumanising approach to detainees, however mentally unstable or fragile the detainees may be.
Violence is systemic within an institutionalised set of policies that treat people, irrespective of whether in the judicial system or the health service, as 'objects' to be handled, rather than individuals to be respected.
