It was a joy to ordain Revd Debra Flint as a priest of the Open Episcopal Church on Holy Island.
Debra worked for over 20 years
in nursing and care before publishing two books. Her first, ‘Look back to the Future: Consecrated Women in Britain 597 AD to
date’, was published at the end of April 2021. Her latest ground-breaking book is ‘No place for a woman: the spiritual and
political abuse of women within Catholicism’
She writes with conviction, intelligence and insight. Recently she has posted the following:
'As a previous care standards inspector with a post graduate qualification in legal investigative practice I followed the whole Letby trial at the time and read all the evidence. I was concerned she was probably innocent right from the start. All the evidence was never presented to the jury and what was presented was twisted. The British Justice system is rotten to the core. They wrongly convicted Sally Clark and ruined her life. They wrongly convicted loads of postmasters and ruined their lives. They wrongly convicted someone for the murder of Jill Dando and caused him much suffering before he was eventually exonerated. He now lives in Ireland.
Letby's case was examined by health care professionals in the hospital she worked in before she was arrested and they exonerated her. A doctor was told to formally apologise to her for making false allegations against her and he then reported her to the police. Whose career was it? His or hers? Another married doctor with whom she had a romantic liaison sent her emails starting the liaison (the connection was clearly initiated by him from the email evidence) and then asking for her help when they were both suspected as they were BOTH on duty during most, but not all, of the deaths. Then suddenly she is arrested and he is protected and his name is never revealed throughout the whole trial to protect him. It stinks to high heaven. I am not stating he is guilty but the whole thing stinks of the police bribing him to push forward their case. Why has he never been named??? A young woman with all her life before her has probably been scapegoated not only because she asked questions but also because she was white, middle class and beautiful looking. The press began reporting her case 3 years before it ever went to court. The media should not be allowed to report on any case that may go to court. In addition to that, after been exonerated by an investigation conducted by health care professionals, she was convicted by a jury of bricklayers. Surely a case such as this should have a jury of healthcare professionals??? This is absolutely disgusting from beginning to end. Anyone who wants to know the facts should read the book 'Unmasking Lucy Letby' written by 2 BBC journalists. A young and sheltered woman has been strung up to protect the backs of the medical hierarchy. Absolutely disgusting.
St Michael the Archangel please help Lucy Letby and assist her against the powers of darkness that have tried to destroy her.'

We have great hopes that Debra will continue to write and influence in a powerful and challenging manner to confront and help reform so many corrupt, patriarchal and destructive practices in religion, state and society.
