THE STENCH FROM THE ANGLICAN CHURCH
First Welby, now Cottrell…and there are many more…people in leadership in the Church of England, who knew and know about abusers but did and do nothing about them and even allow them to be promoted.
Vipers who, when exposed squirm and offer lame excuses for their perfidy and their collusion with those who have destroyed the innocence of our young. Snakes who, claim they had no option, that lawyers advised, that promotions were automatic, as they license abusers to have access to the vulnerable and see them promoted and honoured with greater laudatory titles, even while knowing the young lives they have so damaged and destroyed.
This vile coterie of men with their male God in their male club, has been exposed by Helen-Ann, Bishop of Newcastle, who her male colleagues have shafted, for saying Cottrell should go, as she said Welby had to go. But in truth, all who have been involved, who have known, who have stood by Welby and Cottrell and the hidden rest, should go.
Clear out the House of Bishops and the Anglican leadership of the rot with which it is infested. No child is safe while ever one bishop remains who has not the courage to face down an abuser, who has not the moral backbone to ignore legal advice, and do what is right to do, to protect children.
Who are these miscreant pretenders after faith who for fear of being sued, or being charged with harassment, or slapped with a restraining order, place children in jeopardy? Jesus faced the cross, but they are unwilling to face a prison cell.
The law is wholly unfit for purpose in this regard. It allows unscrupulous lawyers to have evidence about abusers withheld and concealed, reporting restrictions and injunctions enforced. Victims, some in Anglican leadership, can apply for such things too, to protect their anonymity, but which perversely then, at the same time, protects their abuser from being exposed, and thereby endangers others.
The Church, the legal profession, the state, the police, the media and the judiciary are all, in various ways implicated. They collude at worst to produce a protective shield around abusers.
There must be reform, not least a legal requirement to report any knowledge of abuse. Meanwhile, the exposed like Cottrell and all the others in hiding, must go.
