THE TB HOSPITAL MY TRUST FUND HELPS SUPPORT THROUGH THE CHURCH OF NORTH INDIA

This hospital specialises in tuberculosis and has 42 free beds for women from the poorest sector of the society. It also runs a large TB outpatient department that offers free medical services to the urban slums of Howrah handling over 500 new patients a year, and runs a large immunisation campaign.

THE PRIVILEGE OF LOVING MINISTRY

So many opportunities to love. These last few days have brimmed full. First meeting a couple whose renewal of vows I am taking in August, then a baptism on the Isle of Sheppey. On Bank Holiday Monday I was caring for a  bereaved family in Maidstone . Then I was called out at Midnight because the wife of a dear couple, who I had married 27 years ago, was in hospital, very sadly in the last stages of her terminal care, and the family wanted my help. Then a funeral for a young man. Then arrangements for a baptism in a football stadium and another baptism in a pub. Then a family wanting me to take a funeral in Norfolk. Then a family for whom I conducted a baptism 8 years ago contacted me to take a funeral for them in Colchester. Then today taking a  burial for a mixed Muslim and Christian family. Then an arrangement for a baptism near Brighton,whose son I baptised 20 years ago in their garden . On Monday a service in the heart of Kent. Alongside this, liaising with prospective OEC ordinands in the U.K. and the U.S.A. The needs are immense. The world is full of people desperately needing loving, welcoming, sensitive ministry. It is a deep privilege to be here to help them.

I would like to thank you so much for a wonderful service for my mum. There aren't words to portray just how grateful and truly appreciative I am to have had the honour of you conducting the service for me. I feel blessed.I couldn't have had a more beautiful send off for her and you spoke with kind heartfelt words which I can cherish forever. BAPTISING IN A COMMUNITY CLUB BETTER THAN A CHURCH

Instead of forcing people into the elitist and rarefied church culture, putting them in rows and in pews and making them endure a long, alien service, where children become victims and adults are irritated.....conducting the baptism where the family feel at ease, where the guests can get a drink, where the children can play and where the experience reflects the culture and choices of the family is far preferable. It also puts incarnational theology into the praxis of the church. Yesterday, as I prepared for a baptism on the Isle of Sheppey.

THE JOY OF GIVING COMMUNION BY POST

Some years ago, our initiative 'Post The Host' was launched, offering to send consecrated hosts, through the post, on request. Being innovative, radical but loving and genuine, it triggered articles around the world. Through the year we receive requests; this one, for a nonagenarian in New York. Her daughter has just written this moving message of thanks: "My Dear Friend, The Hosts that you graciously send are now with my Mom. I just want to let you know that your compassion has crossed an ocean and that one little old lady feels blessed. THE TRANSFORMATIVE GRACE OF FORGIVENESS

The journey towards being able to forgive is a complex one.
Recognition of the commonality of humankind is one of the staging posts and the lottery in terms of that which we have been given, genetically and circumstantially. There but for grace go I.....
Another is recognising, that often, either in clearly identifiable ways or elusively subtle ones, we have played some part in the evil's origination or evolution. Our hands are rarely clean....
Another is the responsibility to stem its tidal flow, for by allowing it purchase and onward passage, we collude with its perpetuation. Allowing it to stain and scar us, surrenders to its power.....
Another, is that by becoming complicit and contributory to its continuance, we become contaminated ourselves, embittered and burdened and more likely to spawn our own wrong doing as a result. A wounded heart may choose to wound.....
Another is that by being able to absorb the trauma of evil and redeeming it, one becomes a regenerator. And the world is in desperate need of such.......
Forgiveness expresses humility, is self aware, stops evil in its tracks, prevents further evil and helps transform the world and spread peace.
We are pilgrims, finding our way to walk securely on its blossomed paths.
