BEWARE THE SEA - BEWARE THAT INNOCENT PLAYTHING - WATER

Having shared the heartbreak of a number of families, whose children's funerals I have had to take following drowning, I urge adults to watch children near swimming pools, fish ponds, decorative water features, even little garden paddling pools and especially the sea, with unceasing vigilance. Even if they are strong and competent swimmers, they should be advised not to swim beyond their depth, even with buoyancy aids and only allowed to enter the water where signs, local knowledge and lifeguards have indicated that the water currents and conditions are safe.
