SILENCE THOSE OPPRESSIVE BELLS

The Church loved the power it once held over people's lives and lorded it over the parishioners in all matters, public and personal. The wealthy were provided walled boxes with chairs and cushions, while the riff raff were herded into the wooden pews. The bells reminded every parishioner that they were subject to the parson's whim and rule. That power thankfully is no more and the bells of oppression must fall silent.
