THE VICTIMS CREEP OUT OF THE WOODWORK, WHILE THE OTHER COWARDS STAY HIDDEN
There is nothing with which to defend the foul colluders who facilitated the abuse, some of Weinstein's staff and friends. There is little to defend the gutless others who knew about the 'open secret' but just gossiped and winked.
However what of the victims themselves. Oh I know there will be a cry of protest in their defence, much of which must be taken seriously, however, only so far. The fact is that the silence of the victims gave a green light to Weinstein to continue his abuse for decades, ruining and damaging countless others.
A shiver went down my spine this morning when I heard that 18 year old Malia Obama had an internship at Weinstein's this year. An innocent, falling into the fly trap, because the previous victim's stayed silent. Malia survived, we understand, unscathed, but so many others have been despoiled.
Perhaps a law requiring third parties to report abuse should also require victims to report it also. Perhaps the very comfort cushioning and anonymity provided for victims is in fact an invidious method of silencing them, removing their potent voice from society, to protect the paedophiles and rapists.
After all, the ultimate colluders are the state themselves. The Manhattan District Attorney decided not to take action against Weinstein in 2015, despite the complaint, backed up by evidence submitted by Gutierrez and the police department. Weinstein remained powerful mixing with Presidents and high society.
Again and again paedophiles and rapists are reported to the police in the U.K. also and no action is taken or no one ends up convicted. There are many third parties who have made complaints, but without the victim's testimony, are ignored. Perhaps the lack of third party reporting arises because potential whistle-blowers know they cannot rely upon the victims having the courage to support them, and so fear they will be left exposed.
The woodwork must not be allowed to provide anyone with shelter and the victims, must find healing and liberation from their abuse, and safeguard future victims, by speaking out and being encouraged to bring their abusers to justice immediately.
