AMERICAN SNIPER

Graffiti protesters are daubing 'Murderer' on billboards advertising 'American Sniper'. Because the State had sanctioned the killings, Chris Kyle is regarded as a hero rather than an assassin. It is a thin line. Our sympathies are invited, because we are behind his bullets. Shooting someone from over a mile away, who is unaware of your presence, equates uncomfortably with the actions of those who murder someone when their back is turned, ironically how Kyle was himself murdered. Eddie Routh's actions demonstrate that the stain of  spilt blood remains indelible, outliving the transitory moment when a trigger is pulled. People cannot witness human evisceration and return home as normal and healthy citizens about their grocery shopping and child care. By our engagement with and lauding of violence, our society is presently being shot in the back, and not just through terrorism.
