ABANDONING OURSELVES TO DEATH

 The fact is no one knows what happens to 'us' after death. It's a humbling mystery that no scientist, journalist, prophet or priest has been able to penetrate. The fantasy images and beliefs we concoct are paltry and hopelessly inadequate, though in our grief we often cling to them to see us safe across the devastating torrents of loss. In stronger more sane times we need to come to a point of surrender, when content and at peace we abandon ourselves to death as we do nightly to sleep.
