POLICE MISLEAD ABOUT ELEVEN YEAR OLD'S DETENTION
The police claim that the eleven year old was 'in detention rooms specially designated for young people or vulnerable adults.' This is wholly misleading. When the police were asked at the ICV's meeting on Monday evening about whether the cell ,the eleven year old was kept in, was in anyway different to an adult cell, they agreed it wasn't..Treat an eleven year old in this manner and you will create a career criminal hostile to authority as well as being complicit in the abuse of a child.
The PACE rules, governing the treatment of juveniles in detention, were contravened as they regularly are in Bexleyheath custody.
At the same meeting, concern was expressed at how a juvenile had not been provided food.
The lack of provision of basic entitlements to detainees is an ongoing problem in Bexleyheath and despite years of pressure by the ICV panel upon the police to improve, there are still glaring omissions.
