A WARNING FOLLOWING OUR MEETING WITH OUR M.P., SIR DAVID EVENNETT, OVER THE AGE OF CONSENT
My wife and I believe that children, those aged under 18, must be protected from predatory adults. At present, an adult of any age can have sex with a 16 year old by 'mutual' consent. At present, a teacher, doctor, care worker, police officer etc of any age, can have sex with a 16 year old by 'mutual' consent, as long as they do not have a professional responsibility over them. For example Bryan Schalch, a 42 year old married teacher with children, was described as "immoral" but cleared by the judge at Warwick Crown Court, for having had sex with his 17 year old private tutee, because she was a pupil at another school. We wanted to propose a reform that would have prohibited any professional with responsibility for children, from having sexual relations with any child, i.e. not just children with whom they were professionally involved.
Sir Evennett thought this would not be possible to enshrine clearly in law.
We then asked about leaving the age of consent at 16 for peer relationships, i.e. between 16 and 17 year olds, but raising the age of consent to 18 in relation to adults.
He said that he would support raising the age of consent completely to 18, but that in 40 years of being an M.P. no constituent had raised the age of consent with him before, and the general momentum, supported by the Labour party was to drive down the threshold of adulthood generally for voting puposes etc to 16, and that therefore it would not be achievable. Having a two stage system of consent he also thought would be legally fraught with problems.
He said parents had to be vigilant for those intent on abusing their children.

THEREFORE DO NOT TRUST ANY SUCH ADULT IF THEY HAVE CONTACT WITH YOUR CHILD - THEY PRESENT A THREAT - A DEVASTATING DANGER - A LIFE WRECKING PERIL.
