LOVE ISLAND ENCOURAGES THE PURSUIT OF INNER BEAUTY

It becomes clear, when watching Love Island, that all the make up and cosmetic surgery in the world, cannot create the beauty that emanates from personality, nor can create the security in relationship, that is the fruit of being truly loved. Megan reveals this with a certain pathos. She is highly rated by the men for her 'appearance' and uses it to sample numbers of men and tempt them away from their existing partners. She could see this as a success, having spent £25,000 plus on cosmetic surgery and plastering herself with makeup, but in fact she is tormented by insecurity, commenting - "I want someone to love me for who I am and not for what I look like" and saying poignantly to Samira, "I would give anything to have a personality like you have." The tragic element hovers, as those drawn to the flower, having tasted the pollen, begin to lose interest. The men in turn, may offer rippling muscles, as easy bait, and the hint that such provide a doorway to 'perfection'. However it becomes clear, that the most impressive muscular male body on show, is inhabited by a man, Adam, who claims to have slept with 200 plus women, and who has exposed his manipulative, abusive and dishonest methods, working his way through four women already in the house. He exerts his magnetic influence, mesmerising women and drawing them under his spell, only later to discard them, as easily as a McDonald's wrapper. The message, loud and clear, from Love Island, is that behind images of 'perfection' can lie, very flawed, vulnerable and even dangerous people, that one would be foolhardy to emulate and reckless to pursue. The abiding truth, is that the only beauty that can be trusted and that sustains a lasting relationship, is that which is within.
