MORE OFFSPRING SHOULD CARE FOR THEIR ELDERLY PARENTS

The best place for most elderly people, in the autumn days of their lives, is in the bosom of their families. More offspring should show willing and make the commitment to care for their parents, as they once cared for them in infancy. In a weakening state, with memory fading, and the hold on life gradually slipping, to be nestled within the sounds and hustle of loved ones is a last anchor and haven. It is not always possible, but it is far more than presently practised. However we live in a selfish throw away age, where infirm parents join the washing machine and microwave to be scrapped when of no further use. It is unsustainable to expect the government to step in and provide the love and care that families have withdrawn. We need to return to more caring ways.
