THE BISHOP OF EDMONTON NEEDS A WAKE UP CALL

The Bishop of Edmonton argued that the church creates a sense of community and acts as a catalyst for bringing people together. The reality is that it creates division within communities and even families, introducing artificial barriers around matters of faith. It promotes sectarianism based on belief, rather than cohesion, based on humanity. It spreads homophobia and discriminates against the LGBTIQ community. It disfavours women and the differently abled. It operates preferential educational and employment policies, benefiting its own. It monopolises buildings and areas of public life and ministry to the detriment of the community. The opening of a new church is a reactionary step that will see our nation further cluttered with multiple religious buildings of all faiths and denominations. as they compete to gain market share, and blight our path to unity and peace in the process.
