CHILDREN IN CARE AT GREATER RISK THAN IN THE FAMILIES FROM WHICH THEY WERE TAKEN

Reading the catastrophic consequences of local authority care for children, it becomes an ever more pressing question, as to whether many of them should have been left with their birth families. I have known many individuals who were raised in abusive, dysfunctional families, who in today's interventionist world, would have been snatched away by Children's Services and the courts. They have, in the large, become fully functional, integrated human beings, not offending, not being susceptible to grooming or predatory gangs,  not clogging up the prison system and not requiring psychiatric or other counselling support. When a child is uprooted from their birth families, the state causes them immense trauma from which they rarely escape.
