WHEN THE TYRANT STATE USES DEMOCRACY TO OPPRESS

For Spain to describe Catalonia's referendum as 'illegal' is disingenuous. When the Spanish courts support the State, they are seen to be the oppressor's puppets rather than the protectors of justice. Congratulations to the Barcelona football team for its significant protest and to the brave Catalonian people for their dignified vote for independence. Democracy, to live up to its ideals, must allow people to assert their own fine lines of separate identities and liberate them into independent entities. Such separatism can enrich the quest for unity, while resisting a people's passion for self determination will only bring inevitable and unnecessary conflict.
