THE COST TO WOMEN OF CULTURAL GENDER DISCRIMINATION
While being a lifelong supporter of multiculturalism, I suggest that there are severe consequences of patterns that separate the genders and assign them different tasks.
I submit that the brutality and barbarity witnessed of late is able to arise because it is hatched in the minds and imaginations of men whose lives are spent in the company of other men. These are men who have little contact with any softening or challenging female influence from the nurturers and carers of their societies.
The male hunting predatory nature has free reign to scour the earth and become its scourge. Its balancing within a community of equality between men and women is not possible.
While preserving multi-cultural approaches, there must be an awareness, that the benefit of the interface between cultures is that such gender isolation can be gradually eroded.
Perhaps the greatest way to stop the terrorist bloodshed of the present is not by armies, bloodshed and military operations but by helping to facilitate the gender equality that will tug men back from the brutal edges of ruthless thinking to a realisation that human life and love is sacred.
