MATTHEW PARRIS - YOU DIDN'T MENTION THE INHUMANITY OF PRISON
I can understand that you experienced the real community of the forlorn visitors waiting to be further abused by an often abusive system.
Pity that you didn't mention the desperation of families, who often have to travel far to visit loved ones and who are treated like criminals themselves as they pass through security and are herded into position for their few moments of visiting time. Pity you didn't mention the bureacracy through which they have to go even to be able to set up a visit and how fragile the whole process is to being changed. Pity you didn't mention the horrific conditions within the prisons themselves and the dehumanising treatment meted out to often the most vulnerable in the whole of society. Pity you didn't mention the suicides, the violence, the hopelessness, the cruelty, the taunting, the torture techniques and the coercion.
