ADEBOWALE AND ADEBOLAJO - VICTIMS TOO OF OUR TOLERANCE OF RELIGION

I cannot share the vitriol in some of the comments being made about Adebowale and Adebolajo. These young men have fallen victim to fundamentalist religion which led to Lee Rigby becoming a tragic victim of their radicalistion. 

Religion has created a blood lust for centuries across the world and still today Muslims and Christians are slaughtering each other.  Yet not only is religion still tolerated, faith schools are permitted, religious adherents are allowed to mutilate their children, religious broadcasts offend our airwaves and our secular state supports an established church. 

The irrationality of religion makes it an unpredictable motivator and while ever society affords it a place in public life, we cannot be surprised when its dark energy wreaks havoc. 

Imprisoning for life those who have become contaminated by religion not only contravenes the ruling of the European Court, but it removes the challenge of discovering how we can detox a religious addict from their dependency on an artificial stimulant and inspiration and replace it with a responsible attitude towards others, in a world where God talk has been finally eradicated.
